25 Random Things

A chain mail from Facebook. RULES: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you. (To do this, go to “notes” under tabs (+) on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish. [A note from Heather: I had fun writing this list, but as with any chain mail, don't feel obligated!!!] 1. I colored my hair red today. 2. I'm learning to play the guitar and bought myself two new guitars as motivation (one acoustic - a Taylor, one electric - a PRS). When I'm lazy, I remember I spent all this money - then I practice. I take a half-hour lesson once a week and it's kicking my ass, mentally and physically. 3. If I could figure out how to get paid (lots) for writing, I'd quite my day job. I'm taking writing classes at http://www.writersonlineworkshops.com. 4. I miss going out and having fun without a major scheduling feat of acrobatics. 5. I have a bionic eye. Well, not really, but I do have a plastic band around my eyeball to keep it from separating from my head. I'm forced to wear glasses, which I resent, and the vision in my left eye is twice as bad as my right now; it's a mystery how my legs get cleanly shaved in the shower cuz I can't see sh*t. I could make you squirm with the laser, surgery and five inch needle stories, but I won't. Unless you want me to… 6. I drive a Lexus RX300 and feel pressure to downplay it by saying I bought it five-years-used at a good price. I also noticed that when I started driving this car four years ago, I stopped getting looks. Now, how is a junky old Nissan Sentra sexier than a Lexus?? 7. I have continued to sing off and on since high school. I did a musical. I was in the Sac State jazz choir my senior year. I had a rock band. I sang in a jazz project, though we didn't get out much. I came together with some folks at work to perform Woodstock music at last year's summer picnic (never thought I'd sing Joe Cocker). And I've done the occasional acoustic duo with my boyfriend on guitar (Eva Cassidy, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell). I'm currently "out-of-work" and missing it. 8. One of my most memorable gigs was a Nudestock festival at a nudist resort. We were overdressed…in case you were wondering. These were not young, fit people. They were flabby hippies with no tan lines, and piercings that made you look where you didn't want to. It was like jumping into a cold lake: shocking at first, then you get used to it, but pretty soon you're ready to get out. It was loads of fun, but the hoola-hoops were too much! 9. More on the singing front, I was in my own rock band for nearly seven years - all seven with the same bassist and guitarist. We went through drummers like "Spinal Tap". The last six months were unbeatable, but I don't miss dragging my tired ass home at two in the morning after a four hour bar gig. 10. I also played D&D (John…) with some friends post-college. We had the same weekly campaign going for six or seven years…something ridiculously long. I hit level 17 with my fighter-archer. I was never a nerd though. No way! 11. Unless being a nerd means getting a comp sci degree, working for a big ol' tech firm, loving strategy games and am right now wearing a t-shirt that says "Come to the dork side - we have video games" with DORK being glow-in-the-dark. Then I might be a nerd, except that I don't give a rat's bu-hind about technology, or SOA as my current job requires, and would be perfectly happy to sit behind my sewing machine all day. 12. My son will be four in a month. He is funny, silly, smart and beautiful - and loves Transformers and Octopus Prime. 13. I'm dating someone... He was the second guitarist in the rock band. He's crazy good on the guitar, owns his own massage therapy business, teaches computer and technology classes, and has three beautiful teenagers. I love him. 14. I make Z's Halloween costumes. Last year he was Batman, the year before a T-rex. His dinosaur costume was the first serious project I ever tried. Lots of people assumed they were store-bought, and a coworker said I was a "good seamstress". Not really: I simply accept that it takes a lot of time to do it right and start in July. 15. I'm making a blanket out of t-shirts and jerseys from high school. 16. I'm divorced. I was considered both a "cold-hearted bitch" and courageous by others. 17. I love cheese. And strawberries. 18. I've competed at soccer, swimming, volleyball, tae kwon do, golf and bowling. I dabbled in skiing, flag football, paintball and the occasional broom ball game where I gave an opposing (UC Davis-ACM-computer-geek) player a shiner. 19. I continue to play v-ball weekly in a rec league and balance it with yoga at home and walks in the neighborhood. 20. I still have nightmares about failing English. It's ironic that I want to be a writer. I still get one or two nightmares about failing math, but that was closer to the truth my last semester of college. 21. I listen to more talk radio than music radio. 22. I love shoes and own more pairs than I can keep track of. 23. I secretly like doing laundry. Everything organized and orderly, if just for a short while. I often feel a peaceful connection to my mom's mom and aunts who worked on the family ranch and cared deeply about their important domestic duties. 24. I miss my cats, but I borrow a sweet, copper-colored Cockapoo named Lucky. 25. Do I even have 25 friends??
